A person who is a good leader sets an example for their staff through the exercise of certain virtues. By setting a good example, the process of leading is much less problematic. It is not wise to smudge your integrity if you really want to be a good leader. Through practicing these virtues you will earn the respect of your team.

Virtue 1: Ethics

Ethical behavior is the cornerstone of effective leadership. If there is something to talk about, especially about a manager or leader, much time will be wasted through gossip. Whether true or not, a leader can lose respect through accusations of unethical conduct. If you practice ethical behavior, you should feel free to put a stop to idle talk protecting your reputation and your position. The truth will set you free and allow you to earn respect at the same time.

Virtue 2 of o Good Leader: Self-Control

A good leader has self-control. They go by the rules, whether they agree with them or not. It is impossible to enforce rules if you are prone to break them yourself.

Virtue3: Generosity

Generosity usually means giving; however, it goes much deeper than that. In a leadership capacity it means giving thought or actions that are beneficial to others. For instance, when someone asks for time off, a good leader will take the time to understand the situation before making the decision.

Virtue 4 to be a Good Leader: Diligence

Diligent is the opposite of lazy. To be a good leader, you have to work hard paying attention to detail and making good use of time and resources. This also will set an example for the staff to follow.

Virtue 5: Patience

Patience will allow you to see both sides of a story when peacefully resolving conflicts. It will also allow you to forgive and to really give people a chance to overcome their weaknesses and shortcomings. Patience is definitely required when building a team.

Virtue 6 of Good Leaders: Compassion

Compassion involves offering friendship, kindness and sympathy to others. A compassionate person has a natural intolerance for prejudice and therefore, treats everyone the same. This is a virtue that is irreplaceable in a good leader.

Virtue 7: Humility

Humility is a virtue that many leaders do not have, which makes them extremely ineffective. Humbleness is the ability not to take excessive pride in your position. You have heard the old saying, "His position went to his head." When practicing humility, a good leader portrays that they are not any better than anyone else. They give credit where credit due and respect their peers which in turn results in respect for themselves as a good leader.
